Leprechauns, Shamrocks, Guinness and Lightsabers
BY SUEANNE TEO
It was one cold, rainy, and very wet Sunday afternoon, when three Sith, one Jedi, and numerous other troopers and members of the 501st Legion formed the Star Wars contingent for Singapore’s fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Team SEJA was there in full force, with Mike, Azmi, and Spiff as Sith Lords, and Faiz as the lone Jedi. On the side, Sue and Sarah were busy playing holocam droids and capturing the event on tape, while Yazid and Annas provided both moral and physical support for the group.
The contingent gathered at the Raffles Statue at Boat Quay, mingling with the crowds and fellow fans alike. The lines of the 501st troopers, Darth Vader, and Sith Lords were certainly a sight to behold.
While it might have started out hot and humid, the fair weather quickly turned to torrential downpour as our warriors battled the heavy winds and rain on the march that took them along the Singapore River and finally to the open foyer of OUB Plaza.
Soaked to the skin, they nonetheless put up a great performance for the audience, including a surprise cameo by Yazid, who was in civilian gear.
The FX lightsabers that underwent the rain test also took a slight beating from their shower, but we’re crossing our fingers.
The video of the performance and parade should be up by next week.
Meanwhile, enjoy the photos and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day. Cheers!
